What a Blast!!

A group of 40 scouts from the Haywards Heath District joined forces with Northall Clay Pigeon Club and their double Commonwealth Games Champion Charlotte Kerwood, to experience the skills of shooting and outdoor activities for a day.

There were a mixed group of boys and girls ranging from 10 ½ to 14 years experienced expert tuition in small intimate groups in the beautiful Fletching countryside.

The majority of the scouts had never shot before but this didn’t dampen their enthusiasm, nor of the care and understanding the Northall tutors gave them. All the young people were perfectly tooled with the safety implications of this sport and everybody achieved some degree of success.

The size of the group meant that half the scouts had to perfect adventure challenges in the grounds of Northall. An exciting 50-metre zip wire was constructed by the scouts and used throughout the day, which really challenged the youngster’s heads for heights! Fire craft shills were being practiced in the nearby woods with only the natural materials being able to be used, challenging their ingenuity and patience!

Those who wanted to take the natural element one step further, archery was also being taught by qualified scout leaders at the base of the same field. Certainly a few budding Robin Hood’s were present though none managed to do the prefect shot and split the arrow!!!!!

Back at the shoot range the scouts were challenged with 3 different trajectories of clay, one from the left, one going straight up and the final one coming towards the gun. They were all given guns appropriate for their size and age and any nervous ones were given fantastic support and encouragement. All the scouts were given 30 shots; 10 for each range and 5 to get their confidence.

The day passed so quickly. They were welcomed into the clubhouse, and were provided with well deserved hot and cold snacks and drinks. At the end of the day Charlotte showed her 2 gold medals to the scouts and parents for a photograph session. Then Northall awarded the trophies for those who managed the highest amounts of clays hits. Charlotte happily presented the cups to the whoops of excitement from the scouts.

“ I would never have had the opportunity to do these activities unless I was in scouts.” said Jack Foulger of the 7 th Haywards Heath Air Scout Group

All agreed it was a fantastic day.

Heat wave at Northall BBQ!
Full blossomed trees help shade members from the searing heat at this years BBQ together with the new clubhouse and recently finished decking provided some excellent comforts to laze around. Jan put on an excellent food spread which I think I just manage to get a piccie of before the gannets struck!! It was good having just returned from Canada to meet familiar faces and new ones for that matter. The kiddies were well entertained with a bouncy castle and gladiator stand....I did see young Jodie Last giving young Adam a little beating!!!!! Even a few energetic adults had a go. More activities included bows and arrows, air rifles and the good old axe throwing.....frisby throwing and tennis on a string.........sorry Rod I think I had the edge on you with that....hee hee. All in all a great chill out barbie and a thankyou to NorthaCPC...Dan, Jan and Mark for putting on the BBQ and to the members for joining in on the event. I'm sure everyone had a great time and of course many of you saw me with the camera....dam that woman.....so click on here and enjoy the photo show

NORTHALL CPC GO TO HIGH LODGE
An organised trip by Jan attracted a good 30+ of club regulars on a day shooting outing to John Bidwells ground in Suffolk. A fun day out with some challenging targets on the sporting layout....this followed with some lunch in between....and then some more sporting. There was also skeet, a form of DTL? and a strange going away stand consisting of three different sized clays being launched! Good fun nevertheless....and then there was the high tower which many found daunting and others managed well....didn't they Andrew V...!! Laura managed to get a few photos which can be viewed here .......thanks Jan for organising a good day out
